Chromebook Offline File Access

Been looking around and haven't found an answer to this..

Looking to use Google Drive offline for a few of our students that don't have Internet access at home.  Offline access seems to work fine but, supposing you have more files in Drive than can physically fit on the 16GB Chromebook, how do you specify which files you want to be available offline.  Without specifying, it will just sync files randomly.  Thanks- Marc

For those that may be interested....I received a reply from google support on this.

A 16GB chromebook can utilize 10-12GB of space for Drive syncing.  You can also use a thumb/flash drive on the chromebook to expand its available space- Drive will utilize all available space.

Marc....does that mean that the student would connect thumb drive when at school (or online somewhere)....google drive will synch with locally available storage and then when the same thumb drive is inserted at home they would have access to the synched files?

    thanks.....johnb

    Hi John,

No, ChromeOS does not currently sync removable storage like USB drives or SD cards. I actually think that this is a "good thing" after seeing what some staff members have accidentally synced to district iPads when they logged into their personal AppleIDs.

Hmmmm....so I'm curious about Marc's note from Google support "

You can also use a thumb/flash drive on the chromebook to expand its available space- Drive will utilize all available space."

What can a thumb drive be used for on a Chromebook?

my question to google was initially regarding syncing a bigger drive than the size of your chromebook storage, and the gentleman that I spoke with explained that an external drive could be used as part of the offline sync process.  I am planning on testing this.
