Can anyone recommend a third party MDM for iPads? We would like to have different cofigurations/apps on groups of five iPads.

    Thank you!

    Hi Jane,

Take a look at Meraki's MDM system. We've been using it in Smithfield and it works pretty well (within the frustrating limits of Apple's ecosystem). The best part is that Meraki MDM is free!

I would second Meraki - We currently use it here at EWG and it does a good job. It's cloud based, provides an easy to use interface, baseline functionality and is free.  That said we are going to be taking a look at iBoss's MDM offering in an attempt to streamline our process of offsite content filtering.

We are using VMWare's Airwatch here.  The big hurdle is getting over the Apple headaches with all of this.

For those using Meraki, do you still need a mac desktop/laptop to manage your iPads or are you fine with just a PC and Meraki?

    Thanks,

    Matt

We are currently installing AirWatch. Somewhat complicated and I’m still going through webinars to learn it.

    Jane,

If you buy your iPads through Apple Education, you can use the deployment website to "supervise" them.  Due to this you don't need a mac.  If you want to supervise a BYOD type of iPad program though, you'll need the mac to supervise them (I still don't have one).

We're using an MDM called TabPilot now, it's designed for schools (much less you can configure, as there is much less you NEED to configure) and also it has some nice classroom management where it can lock down the iPad screens, push a certain web page, etc.

Also worth noting it's only that classroom management feature that I needed to supervise the iPads, i can push apps to them w/o supervising them, using VPP, which is integrated into TabPilot.
