POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Assistant Network Manager
REPORTS TO: Network Manager
SUPERVISES: Technicians
The Technology Department is responsible for maintenance of technology at the classroom and lab level as well as areas of administration. The Assistant Network Manager needs to be able to work successfully both independently and as a part of the technology team effort. The candidate is expected to continue to advance their skills through continued course work and training sessions in addition to on the job training by the Network Manager and Director of Technology.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Network Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Information
Technology and the Network Manager in the maintenance of the networks, hardware
and software in the North Kingstown School Department, installing new equipment,
maintaining existing equipment and providing computer support throughout the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists in the installation, upgrade, monitoring and maintenance of district wide area
network and local area networks.
2. Responds to support calls as scheduled by Network Manager in a timely and efficient
manner.
3. Maintains, upgrades, repairs and reconfigures hardware (network equipment,
servers, computers and printers) and software components in a timely and efficient
manner.
4. Installs new hardware and software as directed by the Network Manager.
5. Performs network and/or computer troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose
problems.
6. Maintains district backups and test system on a routine basis.
7. Maintains a routine maintenance schedule for all hardware.
8. Consults with vendors’ technical support on warranty issues and difficult problems.
9. Delegates and assign tasks to technicians and support staff.10. Provides users with technical support in a friendly and professional manner, responding to the needs and questions of users concerning the use and functionality of the hardware and software used to support their roles in the school department.
11. Supports district users using district approved software.
12. Assists the Network Manager making recommendations to the Director of
Technology to improve and optimize the network and computer functionality.
13. Recommends ordering of parts and software needing replacement or upgrade.
14. Learns the intricacies of new software, operating systems, and/or hardware as
necessary.
15. Composes and/or presents clear and concise written or oral reports as needed.
16. Communicates effectively with all levels within the organization including
administration, faculty and staff.
17. Prioritizes and executes a variety of complex duties with minimal supervision.
18. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Network Manager and the Director of
Information Technology.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor Degree in appropriate field and technical training/certificate program
preferred. Minimum of three to four years experience managing local and wide area
networks. Strong knowledge of network operating systems. Experience with installing
and managing network servers and printing environments. Experience with firewalls,
web environments, email and database server management. Google Apps for Education experience preferred. Experience in computer hardware, computer software, computer operating systems and peripheral devices. Experience in an educational environment preferred, or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
• Demonstrated ability to draft clear and concise correspondence.
• Ability to compose and/or present written or oral reports as needed.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization including
administration, staff and peers.
PLANNING SKILLS:
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute a variety of complex duties with
minimal supervision. Ability to multi-task.
INTERPERSONAL and PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:
Ability to interact with administration and staff in an effective manner. Ability to
effectively handle issues utilizing a personable problem solving approach.
TEAM BASED SKILLS:
Capable of working collegially with all levels of administration and staff.
