I was wondering if anyone is using Hapara with their Google Apps.  There was a presentation done at one of the meetings last year and I was impressed with its capabilities.  The new Classroom feature rolled out by Google seems to create a combined interface for the teachers but not all of the bells & whistles that were available with Hapara.  I would be interested to hear from anyone who ended up implementing it.

    Hi Lois,

We are in the midst of implementing Hapara Teacher Dashboard right now. We have done the initial training for our teacher leaders and early adopters at our high school. We will be doing the same for our middle and elementary teachers after the holidays, once our polices are in place and our students receive their GAFE accounts.

Our high school teachers were VERY impressed with Hapara and I received a lot of positive feedback during the training. Feel free to use our "Getting Started" handout (if you find it helpful) at http://goo.gl/e5OL9o

I'm sorry, Paul, I never got notification that you replied.  I was just about to send you an email directly and thought I should check this first. Thank you as usual for being so helpful!  It looks like we may be on the same time schedule as you so if you find any best practices or "gotchas", please send them my way!!

We are considering this in Coventry as well.  Plans are underway for January.

We are looking at this as well in Cumberland. Did anyone ever get a better price than what was offered in the past? If you don't mind sharing.

    Thanks, Mike

Mike...if a number of schools/districts are interested in purchasing Hapara licenses it may make sense to approach them as a group.  RISTE would be happy to help facilitate any group discounting if Hapara is amenable to it.

In the past they only offered a discount for orders of 4,000 seats or more, but we can always ask.

Let me know if I can help.....johnb

Thanks John, maybe moving forward if there is an interest it may be worth it. Our biggest part of this product is the parent connection, parents feel left out of a lot without seeing paper and so much collaboration on docs it is difficult for them to feel as they are part of the process.

The product offers so much more as well. What are the features that everyone else has looked at with this? Is this to supplement Google Classroom or help replace?

Hapara has been around for a while along with gScholar.  Google Classroom fills many of the same needs and of course is free, but there are features that Hapara has that are not found in Classroom.

    Hi Mike and John,

Hapara Teacher Dashboard has a few things that I think currently set it apart from Classroom:

    1. Easy reset of student GAFE passwords by teachers
    2. Interact for classroom management/screen sharing of Chromebooks (simple version of Vision or LanSchool)
    3. View only Parent Portal for student Drives
This is our first year with Hapara Teacher Dashboard and we still have a lot to do to get it fully implemented, but our high school teachers like it for making sharing with students and Drive management much easier.

I think that in the next few years this it's possible that Classroom will add all of these features, but we will probably continue with Hapara until that occurs.

I was speaking with one of the Hapara reps yesterday as we work to get automation setup with Infinite Campus and they do offer discounts at the large group/state level, so we may want to re-visit this.

From what I can see of Hapara, it is a more streamlined view of the classroom with more capability for the teacher.  It also puts a lot of the management of the student accounts in the teachers hands thereby freeing up the overhead time of the administrator.
We have just rolled out Google Apps, using Classroom, to teachers and students and decided to wait to add the next level of interface until the summer.  We will probably be purchasing Hapara at that time and would definitely appreciate the benefit of a reduced price as a result of a RISTE agreement with them.
Thank you for all of your input so far!
