    Using Technology effectively to meet the needs of English Language

    Learners and Special Education Students.

    Date:  February 19

    Time:  3:00pm-4:00pm

    Learning and Accessibility tools for students struggling with Reading, Writing, English Language Arts and Special Education Students

    In the United States alone, 73% of classrooms have readers that span 4 or more grades, 72% have students with specialized learning needs, and 52% of classroom with students new to the country and still learning the language. There are tools that make it easier to see, hear, and improve student outcomes by making the computer easier to use.  

    Teachers: adaptation tools at their fingertips that don’t require extra funding and can be implemented immediately.

    Students: personalized Learning, independence, less attention focused on their disability, and no delay in getting the materials they need that oftentimes interrupts their learning. 

    Theme: Universal Design for Learning (Accessibility): Meeting the needs of our diverse learners in an inclusive classroom.

    Products: OneNote and Word (Learning Tools and Accessibility Tools).

      THE ROLE OF THE PARAPROFESSIONAL IN A BLENDED LEARNING CLASSROOM

      Paraprofessionals provide instructional reinforcement; assist with classroom management; and provide instructional assistance as a translator, in a computer laboratory, and in a library or media center.

      Series Description:


      This six-session series will allow teams of two or more educators (made up of at least one librarian and one teacher) the training and time to work collaboratively to create an inquiry-based unit of study, supported by technology-rich learning opportunities.  Sessions will be facilitated in both face to face and virtual settings, and include ample hands-on learning opportunities for teams to build their unit project.


      Series Outcomes:

      Participants will:

      • enhance their understanding of the inquiry process
      • develop a deeper understanding of how to plan and teach with an educational partner
      • create a new, highly-engaging inquiry unit
      • learn and apply new technology tools to enrich unit of study
      • connect with other educators and build their PLN
      • 15 PLUs 12 coursework and 3 demonstration.

      Hyperdocs and Playlists provide those opportunities in an engaging, personalized, and flexible way. Put your students in the driver's seat of their learning and on the path to success. 

      This session will introduce participants to the world of hyperdoc/ playlist creation and community. We will look at various tools and templates to make blended learning a reality in your classroom.

      Bring ideas and lesson possibilities and we can use our time together as an introduction and a collaborative creation time.
